Hi everyone,
I was interested to hear Jay on CBC radio talking about the first evidence of Cesium-134 off the West Coast and as I listened I wondered how people might respond.
Even though Jay made it very clear that the becquerels measured were well, well below allowable limits, in my experience people can be quite bad at assessing risk even when presented with clear scientific evidence.
I'm bringing this up because I work at the BC Centre for Disease Control and yesterday we had a call from someone who had heard the broadcast and wanted to know what steps they should take to protect their well water from the radiation that has now been found.
It will be interesting to see what transpires as more C-134 is found in more of the samples.
